So, I met up with a doll friend yesterday at Eastpoint mall because she said she had something for me (an early holiday/Christmas present) which she couldn't mail, and also just to visit for a while because I haven't seen her in months. I was wondering what it was that she couldn't post and didn't want me taking home on the bus and had a slight suspicion of what it might be, but wasn't certain. So...

Off I went. I gave her a tin of cookies I made (yes, I am still on that BAKE ALL THE THINGS! kick), and she first sat this square gift box down in front of me. I opened it and it was full of doll stuff. While I'm sitting there happy enough with the pile o' doll things, she goes, "And this is what goes with it." and hands over a. sodding. doll. box.
Me: *o* OMG you're kidding. *insert various iterations of gaping fishface here*
Her: ^_^

Yeah...she gave me her Angell-Studio Yan Di. :DDDD She'd been thinking of selling him, but decided she didn't want to/couldn't, and, knowing how much I adore the boy, decided she wanted me to have him. <3 <3 <3 I promised he'd be very well taken care of, and he really, really will. He's already got a new faceup, since she wiped everything but his mani/pedicure. :) (FFF-seriously, what do you say when someone is all, LOL HERE U GO, U CAN HAZ DOLL NAO! besides T.Ting and a lot of flaily OMGILU/OMGTHANKYOU?)

I think I may get over the OMGDOLL! reaction by the end of the day today. I'm not sure yet. XD

Also, here's a picture of the lovely new boy with his new faceup.

(Shockingly, just this once, one of my boys ended up looking less feminine than he began. I think this about the most 'manly' faceup I've ever managed, other than Aurelius's. His original was a really gorgeous, dramatic black and maroon look. I'm not sure how well I did at natural-ish, but it's not completely awful. I pretty much got the look I was going for (not wearing anything but eyeliner, and non-plucked looking eyebrows), so I'm happy. I even blushed his face (and very nearly properly!), and I hardly ever bother to do that. He may look very slightly overblushed (I can't tell, since he looks fine to me), but the extra layer or two is supposed to be there-I wanted just the slightest hint of possibly being unwell to show. He's also got a couple of beauty marks/spots that I added to cover mistakes, but which work perfectly well on this faceup. (This thing took so long. T.T I had to redo it three or four times and ended up wasting nearly half a can of Testors because his face plate kept getting smeared/covered in dirt.)

and for the lulz, how I kept my pastel-covered hands off his face plate for part of the time I was working on him:

(And I swear, I am perfectly capable of expressing myself without the use of emoticons and assorted bits of lolspeak, even if it doesn't appear so right now. Evidently, awesome surprises result in me sounding more daft than usual.)

Congrats Lauren! He is a beautiful boy (awesome job on the masculine face up. I still can't manage those XD). What an awesome holiday surprise... Uh, can I be her friend as well (hahahaha)? What type of body does he have? Is it more on the Bishie side or is it muscular? I can't wait to see him in person.

Thank you! I'm glad you think I did well-I wasn't entirely sure. I did my best (those eyebrows were a pain!). It really was amazing, I'm still a little OMG! over him. Heee, maybe!>.< His body is muscular, but not as broad as some of the really built 70+ cm guys. I can't wait to show him off. I did a full body blushing on him, except for his feet (the boots I have for him at the moment would just scrape it off, so it would have been pointless to blush them), and he's also got, uh...carpet to match the drapes, shall we say? XD I want people to be properly appalled if he flashes them.

Manly eyebrows are hard to do with out them looking too heavy or on the verge of a "uni-brow" but you got it. Great job.

I don't think I've seen one in person yet which was why I asked. His body sounds lovely and I think he'll blend in well with your drew (by the way, does that make this 18 or 19?). As for additional blushing, that's okay (the more offensive the better if you ask me) I payed more attention to a specific area of Aki's body than I should have (a little bit more pink than one should be)... who new that Volks would go out of their way to put in any detail to that area but what ever...

Thank you, seriously. <3

It's a really nice body, IMO. Here is the body, if you want to get a good look at it. *coughs* Uh, actually, he makes 21. (Of course, could count all the tinies as equaling one SD and that number would be lower. XD) Hah, I agree! It would be terribly boring if there were nothing for people to do a bit of pearl clutching over. Heh, that's okay. It's not like people will be seeing it all that often. AS kind of went out of their way to add a bit of detail there, too. Since flickr is evidently fine with dollpeen, here is a picture of his body blushing from the front. Somehow, depending on the light and flash level, his blushing photographs darker than it looks IRL. (Also, apologies for him possibly looking a bit grimy. dark pastel gets everywhere, unfortunately.)

Very, very pretty (most likely something he does not want to hear but "tough" I say). How well does he pose? He looks to be pretty stable from the site photos.

Lovely job of the detail XD. Love it! That is just a riot Lauren. Great job. My boys would be jealous... (well Aki would be). (btw, I don't see any grim. looks like you did a clean job if you ask me. I'll usually keep a damp cloth with in arms reach when I do face ups though, to dab my fingers on when I'm working with dark colors. Dark pastels are a pain. I also keep a clean "blush" style brush to get all of the left over pastel dust before spraying. ... I also think that because you've been looking at him for so long due to the blush job, that only you can spot any flaws)

Yeah, he wouldn't like hearing it much. He fancies himself a manly man. Tough indeed-he's pretty and he'll just have to deal with it. XD He's actually fairly good at posing. He's rock solid standing, and I even managed to get him balanced on his toes just barely leaning against something. (The feet and ankle joints are designed so that he's got really good range of motion.) o.o The body is double jointed, and even the thigh joint there is actually functional. It has multiple ridges, so the thighs can be pulled out and posed at different angles.

Thank you! XD Heh, I should probably have expected that. Silly boy. (Thanks again. You know, I think you're absolutely right. I spent so much time staring at him while doing the blushing that I see every tiny speck of dust or pastel. X.X I'll have to remember the damp cloth next time I do a faceup with dark pastels.)
